I've been working on this painting for weeks now. It has gone through many changes but I think I'm happy now. I've realised that I need to be brave when evaluating a painting and not be afraid to change things. Sections have been painted over and reworked. This process has resulted in a painting that I'm really happy with. I'm loving it's drama and richness. The textures in the bottom of the painting have come out really well. I think I will continue to try being brave and take a risk 😊

I recently went on a day course called “Dive into Colour” by @richard.heys. He started the course with the phrase ‘Let colour be free’. It was a very inspirational day, just playing with colour and forms. Very interesting to hear Richard’s philosophy on colour, learning his processes and seeing his work close up. I know I shouldn't say it, as I could be jinxing myself, but my creativity has kicked in. It may be that I'm organising a show at the Crypt Gallery in Seaford in May. I set myself the task of showing a new body of work. This self-imposed deadline has spurred me on. I did manage to fritter January away. However, I gave myself a stern talking to after I realised this only left me 3 months to get my act together. For whatever reason, I'm feeling inspired. I've set myself the mantra of 'showing up', and this is really helping.
The picture shows how I plan my paintings. A really basic thumbnail. Sometimes I add colour but it's all about the structure and shape. Fingers crossed the creativity carries on x

It's been almost 3 months since I've painted and boy did it feel good to be back in the studio. These last few months, life got in the way of creating and the longer I left it, the harder it was to get started. Last week I spent clearing and sorting my studio. Today, I actually mixed some paints. I'd forgotten how relaxing it was to mix up colours and plan a painting. It's made me realise how good it is for my soul to be creating. I think I had been putting too much expectation on myself and forgotten the joys of just playing with paint and having fun. So that's going to be my mantra for 2025. Hopefully, I can hold onto this feeling and go with the flow. Happy creating everyone 🙂💕

Oh gosh, hasn’t 2024 zoomed by. For me, it’s been a year of saying ‘Yes’ to everything and seeing what worked. This was a good tactic to try, however looking back, I do feel I over committed on shows. This lead to my creativity going down and painting less. I aim to find a better balance for next year.

There were a few stand out moments for 2024. I joined the Sussex Arts Collective and started displaying my work at Gallery UNO in Seaford. It’s been great to meet more local artists and have my work in the gallery.

In October I organised a weekend Fluid Art Retreat in Dorset with fellow artist, Julie Vatcher. I was blown away with how well our the retreat went. The feedback we had was truly wonderful, definitely making all the hard work worthwhile. We were so lucky to have a great group of people attend, making the weekend feel really special. In November I took on sole responsibility for ‘criSam Acrylic Pouring’. criSam was started in 2019 with my good friend, Samantha Butcher. We had great fun running acrylic pouring taster sessions over the years. Samantha decided to concentrate on her painting and stepped down in Nov. I will continue running criSam and all the courses are listed on the criSam website and my website. I offer taster sessions for people who just want to try acrylic pouring to full day 1:1 courses where you can create a landscape painting. I also sell gift vouchers for all the courses which are valid for a year.

I forgot to post this painting. It’s part of my "Fragile” series and is called "Fragile Dream 2”. I used delicate colours evoking a fragile landscape full of distant dreams and soft focus. There’s crackle paste at the bottom of the piece which adds a glorious texture.

There is a second painting in this series which is the same size called "Fragile Dream 1”. They can be hung as a diptych or individually.

I've used yellow ochures to add warmth to the coastline. Thank you to @jimholdenpics who photographed the painting and created the giclée print.

I have a new fine art print to share of my painting "Fragile Dream 2". The giclée print has turned out beautifully and really captures the essence of the original painting. I used delicate colours evoking a fragile landscape full of distant dreams and soft focus.

I’ve been working on a mini series of small paintings. They’re all use the same colours but in different combinations. The paintings are on lovely deep edged canvases which I always think look so cute when hung. This is the fourth in the series and is called “Havens Deep 4”. Hello to all my new followers. This is hopefully, a not too boring introduction. I’m based in the countryside of deepest, darkest East Sussex (UK). I’ve been a full time artist since 2019 and loving it. I work in acrylics and I’m obsessed by land and seascapes. I spend a lot of time watching skies, tracking the way light changes throughout the day. I’m easily distracted when driving by the countryside around me. It brings me great joy when I think of the people who have invested in my work and have it hanging in their homes. I suppose it gives me a tiny sense of immortality. I'm a fantastic procrastinator and a great reader. Autumn is my favourite season, crisp days and blustery weather. The time between Christmas and Spring are my worst days where the weather is dull and uninspiring. I love a dramatic storm and have been known to stand on hills taking photos before the rain hits. I share my life with my musician/mathematician husband and a very aged cat.

Oh wow. I’m so happy with how the UK Fluid Art Retreat worked out last weekend in Dorset. Julie and myself had a fab time hosting and running the workshops. We were so lucky with the people who came, everyone was super creative and lovely. We couldn’t have found a better group of people.

Julie and myself have worked really hard in the months before the event, so it was a huge relief that everything went to plan. We’ve had some really fab feedback and everyone really enjoyed themselves. I must admit that after the event, Julie and myself were shattered. It’s taken me a week to get back to normal. Will I do it again next year…. you bet. It was such a fun and positive weekend x

It's fascinating how combining colours in different ways totally changes the mood of a painting. I'm very pleased to be invited to show a selection of my work at Gertrude’s Garden Arts and Crafts gallery in Rottingdean. This is a pop up gallery located at the rear of The Grange in the Grange Garden Tea Rooms. The 'pop up gallery' is run by local Sussex artists and shows a selection of paintings, prints, ceramics, glass work and quilts.
