My work - inspirations & processes

Textures and flow
I love experimenting with shapes and textures. The way paint flows and merges, creating wonderful patterns and contours.

Applying very fluid acrylic paint, I use rulers and palette knives to drag the colours over each other. This interplay of the paint helps to create wonderful formations which fill me with joy.

The sea, the sea…
It’s my soul restorer, the place I go to blow out the cobwebs, it’s my happy place and my dramatic place. It’s the place I go to in my mind when I’m feeling wistful. It’s a place where I can breathe deeply and relax.

I love the coast around Rottingdean (East Sussex) with it’s under cliff walk way. It looks fantastic when the tide pulls out leaving beautiful rock pools. It gives such a fascinating contrast against the sea. In some of my work, I use crackle paste to help create a wonderful depth and texture to my paintings.
